KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: The gang responsible for kidnapping the 7-year-old son of a businessman for a RM6 million ransom may attempt to flee the country.

Sources familiar with the case disclosed that security at the borders has been stepped up to prevent gang members from leaving the country.

The gang, which is believed to be heavily armed and described as hard core and dangerous by police, might be lying low for the time being.

Sources also disclosed that the gang had previously carried out several other kidnapping cases.

The victim was abducted on March 1 by four men at the newly opened NiuZeXui or NZX Commercial Centre in Ara Damansara.

Following the incident, his family was told to cough up about RM15 million for the boy's release.

The sum was later negotiated down to RM6 million (S$2.6m)and dropped off at an undisclosed location.

The boy, who was shaken by the ordeal, but otherwise unharmed, was later released in Puchong by the kidnappers.

The son of a businessman who has dealings in land and property, the boy had been held captive outside the Klang Valley.
