KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Two armed robbers, believed to be a drug addicts, are preying on taxi drivers in the city.

The duo in their 30s, one wearing a taxi driver's uniform and the other a "passenger" usually armed with a parang, have been caught on film, in the act of robbing a victim.

In the latest incident at 1.30pm yesterday, they slashed and robbed a taxi driver in Bukit Segambut before fleeing with his taxi.

Taxi driver Lim Woon Siah, 62, from Kepong Baru had picked the duo from Taman Wahyu in Selayang.

Lim, when contacted yesterday, said the duo wanted to go to Bukit Segambut.

When they reached their destination, the man in the uniform, who sat in the front passenger seat, told Lim to stop.

"Once I stopped, the back passenger slashed my neck and forced me to hand over cash and valuables. I refused and stormed out of the taxi but he followed and slashed me on my wrist.

"The commotion alerted passers-by who came to my aid but the robbers fled in my taxi."

A reader of The Star captured the incident on his camera and has forwarded it to the police.

Lim was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment and later he lodged a report at the Mont Kiara police station.

He said he lost his wallet, a handphone, RM150 cash and the taxi that he rented from a friend in Kepong Baru.

Sentul police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Sofian Md Yassin advised taxi drivers to be more alert and refrain from taking passengers of whom they were suspicious.

He said police did not rule out the possibility that the duo were responsible for similar cases reported recently in Klang Valley.

Police are looking for a red and white Proton Saga taxi with the number plate HWB 9701.

Anyone with information can call the Rakan COP hotline at 03-2115 9999, SMS to 32728 or contact the nearest police station.
