Woman fined for corruption
Thu, Mar 20, 2008
The Straits Times

A WOMAN who helped her colleague corruptly offer a bribe to her ex-husband to take the rap for a traffic offence was fined $4,000 on Thursday.

Packing operator Chia Lai Yoong, 46, pleaded guilty to intentionally aiding Addy Yip Wai Lun to offer a $200 bribe to Mr Loh Yew Kong on July 18 last year.

Yip, 27, a technician, who was dealt with earlier this year, was caught speeding in his father's car along Jalan Buroh on July 6.

As he was a probationary driver, he decided to get another person to take the rap for the offence and have six demerit points deducted from that person's driving record.

He then asked Chia to check with her ex-husband if he was willing to assume liability for $200.

Chia then text-messaged her former husband about the offer but did not get a reply.

She could have been fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years.
