A FORMER lawyer who was convicted of three drink-related charges and admitted to a fourth was jailed for six weeks and fined a total of $19,000 on Monday.
Lee Tow Kiat, 60, a bankrupt, will be banned from driving for six years on his release from prison.
Called to the Bar in 1973, Lee, now jobless, was found guilty of drink driving, inconsiderate driving and failing to give his breath specimen without reasonable excuse along Lorong 8, Toa Payoh on May 30, 2005.
The court heard that his Jaguar had hit the centre road divider, mounted it and punctured two right tyres before grinding to a halt.
When police arrived, he refused to submit to a breathalyser test and was arrested.
Nearly two hours later, his blood-alcohol reading was 84mcg per 100ml of blood - nearly 2 1/2 times over the legal limit.
Last week, Lee pleaded guilty to one of the two stood down charges - drink driving along Stevens Road at about 12.30am on April 3 last year.
The other charge of failing to give his breath specimen in 2004 was considered during his sentencing.
In the latest case, the court heard that a police woman was on roadblock duty along Stevens Road when she stopped Lee's car.
He smelt strongly of alcohol and failed a breathalyser test on the spot.
He was arrested and taken to Changi General Hospital where his alcoholic breath was 134mg per 100ml of blood - about 1 1/2 times above the prescribed limit .
Lee has a previous conviction for failing to provide a blood sample in 1993. He was then fined $1,000, banned from driving for one year.
