PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA - POLICE have obtained photofits of the armed robbers involved in the heist at the KL International Airport (KLIA) and are investigating if it was an inside job.

It is learnt that police have sketched out at least three of the six suspects including a woman based on descriptions given by eyewitnesses including KLIA workers.

'However, we will not release the photofits to the media or the public just yet. It is for investigation purposes and we will inform the media when we are ready to release them.

'We also do not rule out the possibility of an inside job but we have to get statements from all victims who were seriously wounded in the incident before we can establish it was,' said Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar.

It is learnt that police have recorded brief statements from injured policeman Lance Corporal Zainuddin Md Isa, 39, and Muhamad Fadzil Amanullah Khan, 20, one of the two moneychangers.

Three others - Ahmad Suhaime Mohd Yussop, 49, a security guard escorting the moneychangers, a Nepali worker Lal Bahadur Shrees, 29, and moneychanger Buhakri Abdullah, 22 - will be interviewed soon.

DCP Khalid said police are also checking if the suspects involved were part of notorious armed robbery gangs such as the Mamak Gang, Deva Gang or Botak Innasi.

'We have informed our counterparts along the borders to beef up their surveillance and patrol as we believe the suspects would attempt to leave the country,' he said.

In the 7.30pm incident on Wednesday, six armed robbers shot five people in the three-minute heist and escaped with S$1.5 million.

Two moneychangers were walking to Gate 8 with the cash with two security guards when six robbers armed with two automatic pistols confronted them outside the automatic door.

They shot at the thighs and legs of the five men.

It is learnt that the moneychangers were at KLIA to hand over the money to two Singaporean businessmen who are suspected of attempting to transport the money out of the airport to Singapore. -- The Star/ANN.
