Two unemployed men aged 41 and 43 years old have been arrested in connection with two attempted snatch thefts committed at Chatwell Drive and Plantation Avenue.
The two men were believed to have attempted to rob a 25-year-old woman walking along Chatwell Drive on Saturday at about 10.15pm. They came behind her on a motorcycle and tried to snatch her handbag. The victim struggled with them and managed to pull back her handbag from the culprits.
Later, at about 10.45pm, the culprits also attempted to snatch away another woman's handbag along Plantation Avenue but failed.
Police established the identities of the culprits within four hours of the first incident. The first culprit was arrested early on Sunday at a unit in Block 222 Serangoon Avenue 4. The second culprit was subsequently arrested at a different unit in the same block.
The motorcycle used in the commission of the offences was also seized.
The two men will be charged on Monday.
The offence carries a maximum jail term of 7 years imprisonment and offenders may be caned as well.
