Illegal drug peddler jailed
Thu, Jun 12, 2008
The Straits Times

A MAN caught hawking sexual enhancement drugs at a backlane of Desker Road was jailed for four weeks on Thursday.

Tang Joo Hock, 60, pleaded guilty to three charges of selling medicinal products containing sildenafil, a potent drug, when he was neither a pharmacist nor acting under the personal supervision of one on March 14.

He is the latest person to be jailed in recent months for such offences.

A fourth charge was taken into consideration.

Since late January, seven men have slipped into a coma after taking phoney pills.

Four, including a man in his 20s, have died.

Tang is the seventh person this year to be jailed for such offences.

He has previous convictions under the Films Act, Poisons Act and for selling obscene books.

Sildenafil is used to treat male erectile dysfunction that should only be taken under a doctor's supervision.

When taken with nitrates, it could cause a lowering of blood pressure and lead to fainting, dizziness or even a heart attack and stroke.

Tan has been convicted under the Films Act and Poisons Act and also for selling obscene books.
