THREE elderly women wearing gold chains were targets of snatch thieves in the Bukit Merah area on Sunday and Monday.
The first incident happened behind a coffeeshop at Block 116 Bukit Merah View on Sunday morning.
A woman in her mid-60s was walking there when a man came from behind her, snatched her gold chain worth and pendant worth $1,200. He then got on a bicycle and fled towards Block 117.
At 8.30pm, a woman in her late 70s was at the lift lobby of Block 104 Jalan Bukit Merah when a man who was riding a bicycle stopped to ask her for money to buy food, in Hokkien. She ignored him. Later at a staircase leading to a nearby bus stop, she spotted the man coming towards her again. She tried to move away but fell. He snatched a part of her gold chain worth about $200 from her and fled towards Lower Delta Road.
The next morning, a 60-year-old woman was walking with her two-year-old grandson in front of Block 143 Jalan Bukit Merah when a man on a bicycle rode past her from the front.
He then got off the bicycle and snatched her gold chain and jade pendant worth $750 and fled towards Lower Delta Road.
In all cases, the man is described to be in his 40s, about 1.7m tall and of plump build. He was seen wearing a cap and shorts.
