'Repairman' tricks elderly woman, steals valuables
Thu, Jul 17, 2008
The Straits Times

AN 82-YEAR-OLD woman was tricked into letting a bogus repairman into her flat during a power blackout on Wednesday afternoon.

She was watching television shows in her flat at Block 31 Bendemeer Road when there was a power failure at about 1.45pm.

A man claiming to be a repairman then appeared at her doorstep and said he was there to restore electricity.

He asked the old woman to help lift up the wires in her toilet, while he went out.

When the woman came out to look for the 'repairman' about 10 minutes later, he was gone.

Also missing from her flat were $300 worth of earrings and $1,050 in cash.

The man was 1.75m tall, medium built, and dark-complexioned. Anyone with information can call the police at 1800-255-0000.
