Snatch thief caught by 2 members of public

A snatch thief was nabbed by two residents after he grabbed the handbag of a woman at a void deck in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 on Sunday night.

The victim, a 46-year-old woman, cried for help when her handbag, containing cash and valuables worth about $250, was snatched by the man at Block180 at 8 pm.

This attracted the attention of two residents, Mr Wong Hee Soon and Mr Tay Meng Hooi, both 34. They chased the fleeing suspect and managed to catch him at the void deck of Block 177 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

The 52-year-old man was also suspected to be involved in two other snatch thefts committed in Ang Mo Kio last month.

He will be charged in court on Tuesday for snatch theft which carries a maximum of seven years jail term. imprisonment. He is also liable for caning, if convicted.
