A WOMAN lied to the police that her husband had assaulted her and took their child away forcibly.

Housewife Abdul Aziz Sarifa Begam, 26, did this as she wanted the police to get her child back from the victim.

She pleaded guilty on Wednesday to giving false information to the police at Sheng Siong Supermarket in Clementi West Street 2 last Aug 21.

A Community Court heard that the mother of two was shopping for groceries when she claimed her husband, Mr Mohamad Kamal Haja Mohideen, 35, took their 11-month-old son away forcibly.

She also claimed he had slapped and pushed her on the shoulder, causing her to fall down the escalator.

Mr Kamal, who had permission to take the child, was detained for about six hours after his arrest on Aug 24.

Begam's lawyer, Mr Kertar Singh, said his client, who had taken a personal protection order against her husband, was confused when she found her husband and child missing at the supermarket.

She thought he might have taken the child away across the Causeway and made the false report that he had assaulted her.

She will be sentenced on on July 29.

She faces a jail term of up to six months and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
