A MAN who was found guilty of molesting his Indonesian maid three times was sentenced to a total of 30 months' jail on Thursday.
But Yu Eng Chin, 52, a manager of a company, will not be going to jail just yet.
He is appealing. His original $10,000 bail was upped to $15,000 pending the appeal.
District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim convicted him of molesting his 21-year-old maid at his home in Tampines in December 2005, January 2006 and Feb 9, 2006 after a nine-day trial.
Highlighting two aggravating factors in the case, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Der Lim said Yu had molested the maid between seven and 10 minutes and involved sensitive and private parts.
Furthermore, he said Yu had wrongfully restrained the victim on all three occasions.
The DPP said Yu had also put the victim to stress as she had to recount her painful experience during the trial.
Yu could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined. He escaped caning as he is over 50.
A fourth charge of allegedly molesting another maid in April 2006 will go for a pre-trial conference later next month.
