JOHOR BARU: Police detained 10 more suspects, including a lance-corporal, in connection with the theft of syabu from the Johor police headquarters last week.

The suspects were picked up separately in an operation that started from midnight Sunday until early morning here Monday.

The latest arrests of the policemen brings to four the total number of policemen arrested in connection with the case.

Another policeman L/Kpl Morne Aliamat, 40, who was also being investigated in connection with the case was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head in an oil palm estate in Setia Indah on Sunday.

In the latest arrest on Monday nine suspects aged between 26 and 43 were detained in two separate raids in Seri Alam.

In the first raid, four men were detained at an apartment while five others, including a woman, were detained at a house in Jalan Suria.

The 28-year-old policeman, who is attached to the Seri Alam Narcotics unit, was picked up at his home in Taman Molek.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said that the policeman had been detained under the Special Preventive laws while the other suspects were detained under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in and theft.

"We already arrested a lance-corporal and two acting corporals under the Special Preventive Laws last week.

"In total, we have 13 suspects and we are determined to solve the case as soon as possible," he said.

Earlier, DCP Mohd Mokhtar also attended the funeral of L/Kpl Morne Aliamat in Pontian.
