Youth charged with rape bid on 13-year-old student

An 18-year-old youth was charged for outraging the modesty of the 13-year-old student and attempting to rape her at a premises in the city area on Jan 15.

Bail of $20,000 was set.He will appear in court again on Aug 26.

If convicted of molestation, he can be jailed for up to two years or fined or caned or received any two punishments.For attempted rape, the maximum penalty is 10 years' jail plus fine or caning.
