A WOMAN was fined $650 on Monday for taking part in an assembly with five others without a permit.

Harkirat Kaur, 29, a freelance editorial worker, was the first in the group to admit to the gathering near Raffles City Shopping Centre, North Bridge Road, on Sept 10, 2006.

She was distributing flyers to passers-by at the entrance of City Hall MRT in front of the shopping centre with opposition politician Chee Soon Juan, his sister, Chee Siok Chin, Tan Teck Wee, Jeffrey George, assistant treasurer of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), and Gandhi Ambalam, SDP chairman.
