A RUNNER for an illegal football betting syndicate was jailed for one month and fined $20,000 on Tuesday for acting as a bookmaker.
Henry Lee Tok Tong, 38, pleaded guilty to receiving bets on two UEFA Euro 2008 matches to be played on June 14 between Italy and Romania, and between France and The Netherlands on a cash or credit basis.
A party of officers from Criminal Investigation Department raided his flat at Hougang Avenue 3 on June 14 and seized $2,645. He could have been fined up to $200,000 and jailed for up to five years for the offence.
