GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA - Barely 24 hours after the robbery-cum-murder of an ex-assemblyman's wife, the wife of former Pulau Tikus assemblyman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan was robbed at the porch of their house in an exclusive precinct here.
Datin Chang Lee Lee, 48, was parking her car when a man ran inside the compound of her house in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman as the automatic gate was closing.
He then used a rock to smash the passenger side window.
Dr Teng, who is also state Gerakan chairman, said the man grabbed his wife"s handbag containing cash and a cellphone totalling RM2,000.
The incident happened at about 8.30pm on Tuesday.
"The robbery happened so quickly that my wife did not even have time to react. The man then climbed over the gate and jumped onto a motor-cycle outside before speeding off.
"My wife had just returned home after sending my son to tuition when the incident happened," he related.
"I was not at home as I was at a dinner in Jalan Mesjid Kapitan Keling. I am thankful that my wife was not physically injured. She is a bit traumatised."
Chang had earlier in the day visited the family of Thor Joo Lee, who was brutally stabbed in a robbery in Tambun Indah on Monday night, to extend her condolences.
Thor, the wife of former Bukit Tambun assemblyman Lai Chew Hock, was driving into her house when a man followed her into the porch and tried to snatch her bag containing RM14,000. It is learnt that there was a book containing the addresses of wives of some political leaders. A copy of the names has been handed over to the police.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob, however, said the two cases were not connected.
"This is just a coincidence," he said.
