By ELENA CHONG

A MAN who threw his younger sister's pet dog from a high floor was sentenced to a total of 6 1/2 years' jail and six strokes of the cane for the act and other offences.

Sim Wee Meng, 33, admitted on Wednesday to cruelly ill-treating an animal, two charges of drug consumption, and unlawfully having two foldable knives.

A district court heard that he was at his sister's home at Sengkang on Jan 21 last year when he suddenly grabbed her three-year-old pet Maltese called Prince by the neck and threw it out of the 22nd-floor living room window.
