>KUALA TERENGGANU, Malaysia: A 44-year-old labourer was assaulted when he attempted to break up a date between his niece and her 36-year-old boyfriend on Wednesday evening.

The victim, from Kampung Kuala Tepoh here, had earlier followed his niece from her house to a factory near Kampung Tepoh and was shocked to see that she was meeting up with her boyfriend, who is also his neighbour in the 5.30pm incident.

State CID chief Superintendent K. Manoharan said the victim then confronted the man and a fight ensued resulting in the victim being hit with a stick several times by the boyfriend. The attacker then fled the scene.

The victim who injured his head, body and legs received outpatient treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital before lodging a report at the Batu Rakit police station.
