GEORGE TOWN, Malaysia: The public has been warned to be wary of a couple going round offering life membership in the DAP.

State DAP organising secretary Teh Yee Cheu said he had received complaints that the couple had been recruiting people to become DAP life members with promises to help them apply for low-cost houses.

Urging people not to be duped by the couple, Teh said the party had made no such arrangement for anyone wishing to join it.

Teh, who is also Tanjung Bungah assemblyman, said the couple had so far gone on the so-called recruitment drive in Bukit Gelugor, Bukit Bendera and Jelutong.

He said 20 people had fallen for the scam.

"The victims ended up paying RM100  each to become DAP life members," he said, adding that the party would lodge a police report once it had compiled more evidence.

Teh said that while the party welcomed anyone who wanted to become a DAP member, those interested should apply through the proper channels.
