GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA - Two priceless antique statues - one of the Eight Immortals and a warrior deity - were stolen from a temple in Perak Road here.
Temple chairman Ang Hoe Thye said one of the committee members went to the temple at 8pm on Saturday and found the statues missing from the altar.

"A donation box containing more than RM1,400 was also stolen. The money came from devotees during a recent temple celebration.
"The committee is not that concerned about the money but we are appealing for the return of the statues which are irreplaceable," he said yesterday.
Ang said there were 40 statues of various deities but the thieves took the two best ones which were made of wood and porcelain.
"The statues were bought from a shop for RM900 over a decade ago. They were already antiques when we got them.
"The thieves gained entry by cutting the lock on the grille of the side window. A police report has been lodged," he said.
