Thieves target diners

>KUANTAN, MALAYSIA - Snatch thieves here have now changed their modus operandi with their main targets being victims who put their handbags on the table in restaurants. In most cases, the culprit will enter the restaurant on the pretext of buying food or drinks before grabbing the handbags and running towards an accomplice on a waiting motorcycle.

In the latest incident, two women lost RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively when their handbags were stolen by the snatch thieves in two separate cases here on Thursday.

The first incident happened at 2.30pm when the 31-year-old victim was having lunch with her husband and son in a restaurant in Jalan Tun Ismail.

Four hours later, a 29-year-old woman became the second victim when her handbag was grabbed inside another restaurant nearby.

State Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Superintendent Nordin Mustapa said both the thefts could have been committed by the same men.
