KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Two car thieves thought it was an easy job when they broke into a Proton Perdana V6 early yesterday morning and drove it away but did not expect to be chased by the owner's son.

Both men fumbled in the car chase and crashed the car, which led to their arrest.

The thieves, aged 19 and 30, managed to pry open the car but the car alarm was triggered in the process. With the vehicle's alarm blaring, the duo sped off.

But they chose the 'wrong' victim as the car belonged to Royal Malaysian Air Force Assistant Chief of Staff (Administration) Brig-Gen Datuk Mohd Noh Mohd Said.

When he heard his car alarm go off at about 6.50am and saw his car being driven off, he got his son to chase them in another car.

Ampang Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt Amiruddin Jamaluddin said Brig-Gen Mohd Noh's house at Bukit Teratai was located near Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar's home.

"The thieves took several wrong turns before they found an exit into the Middle Ring Road 2," he said.

"They lost control of the car and it spun for a few times before crashing into a divider near a Chinese cemetery," he said.

Police found the abandoned car there and the two injured thieves were subsequently arrested.

Supt Amiruddin said the thieves, who were later taken to the Pudu police station for questioning, have been remanded. --THE STAR
