MUAR, MALAYSIA: A man in his 30s was gunned down by police after he fired several shots at them.

A squad of policemen was patrolling Jalan Kesang Laut when they came upon the man in a car at about 3.15am yesterday.

Police tried to stop the car for inspection as the man was acting suspiciously.

However, he fired several shots at them.

In response, the cops shot and killed him on the spot.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Amer Awal said that police found a .38 revolver from the man's car.

Initial investigations revealed that the man, from Muar, had past records for drug-related and other offences.

"We are checking whether the car was reported stolen," he said --THE STAR
