YOUTH gamblers are more difficult to manage than their older counterparts who are aware of their responsibilities, such as providing for their families, counsellors said.
Generally, the younger addicts do not see their habit as a problem.
Mr Wong Kwong Sing, service director of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society, said: 'It is the thrill of winning that youths become addicted to. Soon they turn to betting as their means of coping with negative emotions, such as frustration, loneliness and boredom.'
The society has counselling and family service centres to cater to gambling addicts.
