KUANTAN, MALAYSIA - A shopkeeper was yesterday sentenced to a jail terms totalling 120 years jail and 60 strokes of the rotan for raping his 15-year-old daughter. He pleaded guilty to six counts of incest. For each offence, he received a sentence of 20 years jail and 10 strokes of the rotan.

However, the man, of Felda Chini Timur 3, Pekan would only serve 40 years in prison when judge Hassan Abdul Ghani ordered some of the sentences to run concurrently.

To the first set of three charges, he pleaded guilty to raping his daughter at his shophouse in Felda Chini Timur 3 about 1am in early August last year; at an oil palm plantation in the Felda scheme in the middle of the same month and in a goat shelter about 6pm before the end of the month. The man also admitted raping his daughter about 10.30am in the middle of September last year; about 9am at the end of the same month and about 6pm on Nov 6, last year.

All the three offences in the second set of charges were committed at his shophouse.

Hassan ordered the 20-year sentence for each of the first set of charges to run concurrently, and the same applied to the sentences for the second set of three charges.

The judge said the man was worse than an animal. The public cannot forgive you."

Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumat had earlier pressed for a severe punishment as a deterrent to others.

Several family members, including his fourth wife who is also the victim's mother, were seen consoling each other after the man was taken to Penor prison.
