The inquest into the murder of 39-year-old Goh Yoke Seng, a Singaporean, began yesterday.
This was a case which shocked many Malaysians when news of the discovery of body parts in a condominium refrigerator in Kuala Lumpur broke in August 2007.
The dead businessman was married to Nora Jawi Spreen Jawi, a 33-year-old from Sarawak.
His body was found in a refrigerator at an upmarket condominium in a suburban part of the Malaysian capital.
It had been cut into 11 parts and kept in five black garbage bags, reported Shin Min Daily News.
His wife became the only suspect then. She was arrested, but was released unconditionally two months later due to a lack of evidence.
Inquest starts
At the opening of the inquest yesterday, the condominium management revealed that a year or two before the body parts were discovered, residents at the apartment block had already complained of an odd smell from the unit on the 19th floor.
But, whenever management complained to Nora Jawi, she would turn up to clean and explain that, as she was often not living there, it could be due to a dead rat or food rotting in her freezer.
Gruesome discovery by new condo owner
New owner Ng Boon Lin (translated from Chinese) told the court that when his maid opened the sealed refrigerator, the foul smell become much stronger. She also found several black bags in the freezer.
When she hit a bag to try to discover the contents inside, it sounded like she hit bones.
Mr Ng called security.
He bought the unit from a bank sale.
