Man denies undergarments theft

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Malaysia - A construction site supervisor was charged with attempted theft of female undergarments at a magistrate's court here.

S. Umadevan, 30, from Taman Alma claimed trial when charged before magistrate Chiang Kian Hong yesterday.

He was accused of committing the offence in Taman Jernih, Bukit Tengah near here at about 9.30am on Tuesday.

He was charged under Section 378 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum seven-year jail term, fine, or both upon conviction.

Chief Inspector Chee Yein Kein appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by Benjamin Sathyanantham.

Chiang set bail to RM3,000 and fixed Nov 17 for mention.
