MUAR, MALAYSIA - A 14-year-old boy was among a gang of teenagers who beat up a Bangladeshi and robbed him of his mobile phone and belongings near a Bentayan bus stop here on Friday.

The boy, however, was detained by members of the public as he attempted to flee the scene.

A witness to the incident, Amirul Aziz, 18, who sells express bus tickets, said he saw about six boys stopping the Bangladeshi at the pedestrian overhead bridge about 2.30pm.

They then started hitting him with their fists, before grabbing his wallet and handphone.

"I asked two of my friends to give chase and managed to catch the 14-year-old, but his accomplices escaped," said Amirul.

The boy was handed to a police officer who was on patrol.
