IMMIGRATION and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers have netted a haul of over 50,000 packets of contraband cigarettes.

The illegal consignment was uncovered at the Old Woodlands Checkpoint on Monday during a routine check of a Malaysia-registered truck, hidden in 31 panels of thick insulating materials, each measuring eight feet by 22 feet.

ICA officers first sensed something amiss when an image scan of the truck detected anomalies. Suspecting there could be something concealed within the panels, officers used crowbars to ply them open.
