Bekasi Police have arrested four people following a raid on Muaragembong police station Tuesday night.

About 40 people ransacked the police station and damaged a patrol car, as a crowd vented their anger over the police's decision to ticket their neighbour, kompas.com reported Wednesday.

Bekasi Police chief detective Adj. Comr. Susatyo Purnomo Condro said police officers ticketed a motorcyclist for his failure to produce his vehicle's registration document on Tuesday night and asked him to bring the document from home.

This sparked anger among his neighbors and a group of angry residents turned up at the police station to protest against the ticketing. At first the police managed to keep them at bay, but minutes later, dozens of people arrived and threw stones at the police station.

Susatyo said although security had been restored, two platoons of police had been deployed to guard the police station.

The violence erupted as police are facing mounting public distrust after a tape recording revealed an alleged plot to frame antigraft commission leaders.
