Women still falling victims to 'parcel of love' scam
Sat, Nov 28, 2009
The Star/Asia News Network

SIN CHEW  Daily quoted MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong as saying that many women are still falling victims to the "parcel of love" scam.

It reported Chong as saying that a 40-year-old woman from Kedah was recently cheated of RM45,000 (S$18,396) after she believed her foreign "boyfriend" had sent her US$2mil (S$2.7 million) via the post.

It was reported that the man, who was identified only as Frank, 46, had even come to Malaysia to meet the victim.

She received a call from an officer purportedly from the Immigration Department, asking her to bank in RM5,000 for the release of a parcel. She then deposited RM3,000 into a bank account.

She later received another call from a man in Britain, asking her to bank in RM42,000 as processing fee.

The woman did not suspect anything and deposited the money.
