TEMERLOH, Malaysia: Police detained a 23-year-old man on suspicion of raping his 13-year-old girlfriend at his grandmother's home in Kampung Bingkil, Kuala Krau, near here last Saturday.

The man was believed to have convinced the girl to accompany him to his grandmother's home at 8pm.

However, when they got there, the grandmother was not in.

The girl was forced to stay overnight where she was allegedly raped before being sent home the next day.

When questioned by her father, the girl initially kept quiet. But she was confirmed to have been raped after the father lodged a police report and a medical examination was carried out.

Deputy district police chief Superintendant Zundin Mahmood said the suspect would be held in remand until Friday.
