Husband and wife held over double murder

JOHOR BARU - A couple has been detained in connection with the murder of a contractor and manager of a construction firm at Jalan Tebing Runtuh during a robbery here on Wednesday.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the 55-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife were nabbed following a raid at a house in Nusajaya at 3pm on Thursday.

"The suspects have been detained to facilitate investigations into the double murder.

"They have been remanded until December 11," he said here yesterday.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police were still looking for four other men.

"We have a total of three suspects in custody after the arrest of a 22-year-old woman on Wednesday night," he said, adding that the police hope to solve the case soon.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said police were also tracking down the getaway car used by the assailants after the murder.

B. Saravanam, 39, and the 43-year-old manager R. Vesvanathan of a road-building firm in Nusajaya, were shot dead during the 3.30pm robbery.
