An unemployed man was sentenced by the magistrate's court yesterday to 20 years' jail and seven strokes of the rotan for raping and sodomising a university student.
Magistrate Noralis Mat also ordered Akhbar Abdul Razak to serve five years' jail and receive five strokes of the rotan for robbing the victim.
Akhbar, 35, from Skudai, Johor, was charged with raping and sodomising the victim and then robbing her behind some bushes along the Taman Bukit Emas railway tracks in Rahang here between 11pm and 12.30am on Dec 2 last year.
Akhbar, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty to all three charges.
At present, Akhbar is serving a seven year jail term for gang robbery, which will be followed by two years' jail for armed robbery.
He robbed her of a gold bracelet, handphone and RM150 (S$61.32) while armed with a samurai sword.
Noralis also sentenced Akhbar to another four years' jail for attempted robbery near the Seremban Municipal Council field at 9.45pm on Nov 18 last year.
After the completes the nine years, he will begin the 20 year term, and this will be followed by the four years' jail for attempted robbery. The accused has seven criminal records for various offences, including robbery, possession of stolen property and car theft from 1996 - 2005.
He has also accumulated more than 20 strokes of the rotan from the numerous convictions
