A MAN stabbed his girlfriend when she refused to marry him and then took his own life by consuming poison, reported Tamil Nesan on its front page.

The daily quoted a police spokesman as saying that the 39-year-old boyfriend went to the girl?s house in Batu Pahat and stabbed her before returning to his village in Sungai Siput in Perak on Jan 24.

The man and the 32-year-old woman had worked in Ipoh together but she got a job in Batu Pahat where she fell in love with someone else, said the spokesman.

The boyfriend tried to persuade her to marry him but a quarrel ensued, and he stabbed her.

The daily, however, did not mention the woman?s condition. The man is said to have confessed his actions before his death on Thursday.
