Trio rob guard of $164, 080

SHAH ALAM, Malaysia - Three robbers ran away with RM400,000 (S$164, 080) after abducting a security guard who was loading cash into an automated teller machine (ATM) at a petrol station here.

The three men, disguised as security guards, confronted the guard at about noon when he was replenishing cash into the ATM, said district OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayob.

"The men had tailed the guard's cash-in-transit van in a car before abducting the guard and driving off with him and his money bag," ACP Zahedi said yesterday.

The victim was released by the roadside not far from the petrol station.

The robbers are believed to be locals in their 30s.

Police are questioning the guard, also in his 30s, to ascertain amongst other things, why he was not accompanied by an armed guard when he was carrying out his duty.
