Snatch thief stabs youth in the chest

PETALING JAYA - A youth is fighting for his life after he was stabbed in the chest when he tried to fight off a thief who snatched his bag near the Batu Caves temple.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the 20-year-old man was walking alone at 5am yesterday near Plaza Umno along Jalan Batu Caves when the suspect grabbed his bag and tried to escape on foot.

"The victim gave chase and caught up with the snatch thief before a struggle ensued.

"The suspect then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest," he said.

Members of the public, who saw the commotion, turned into an angry mob and bashed up the suspect before handing him over to the police.

SAC Abdul Rahim said a 27-year-old man had been arrested and was being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt during a robbery.
