PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA - A financial controller has been arrested in connection with the RM1.2mil found in a fitness centre locker in Subang Jaya.

It is learnt the 41-year-old man surrendered himself to the Shah Alam police on Saturday afternoon.

Selangor CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed the man had been detained for questioning.

'He is assisting us in connection with the police report lodged with the Shah Alam police about three weeks ago,' he said, but declined to elaborate.

It is learnt that the financial controller, who works for a corporation in Shah Alam, allegedly abused his position to transfer money from the company's account.

According to sources the money was part of about RM4mil withdrawn by the company for a project.

The sources added that the firm's top management only realised the money was missing several days after the cash was withdrawn from the account.

It is believed the financial controller took the money and kept it at the fitness centre where he works out.

On April 18, The Star reported that a supervisor at a well-known fitness centre found RM1.2mil in a bag in one of the lockers when closing for the day at around midnight on April 11.

The supervisor contacted his manager who then called the police.
