PASIR PUTEH, MALAYSIA - A nine-year old boy became the latest victim to drown off the shores of Tok Bali when he was overcome by huge waves on Friday.

Mohd Azraf Mohd Zainuddin from Kampung Jaka in Tanah Merah went for a picnic with his family and neighbours at 5.30pm.

He was swimming with his elder brother Mohd Azli, 10, and several other friends when he got into difficulties when strong waves swept him away. All but for the victim managed to swim ashore.

Mohd Azraf's father Mohd Zainuddin Saman, 48, who tried to rescue his son, was also overcome by the waves and had to be rushed to the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia where he is now warded.

Firemen found the boy's body seven hours later, 500m from where he was last seen.
