KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: Six people, including a pregnant woman, were killed in two separate accidents in Mont Kiara and Klang early yesterday.
The first incident happened about 2.30am at Km4.5 of the Kerinchi Link highway when three friends -- Lim Chee Wee, 27, Ee Boon Wah, 24, and his wife, Sin Liang Min, 23, who was expecting -- were travelling from Sri Hartamas towards Petaling Jaya.
City traffic police chief Assistant Commissioner Abd Wahab Abd Rahman said Lim, who was driving the Honda Civic, lost control of the car after overtaking another vehicle.
"The car rammed into three trees by the side of the highway, killing the driver and the front seat passenger on the spot," said Abd Wahab.
"Sin was rushed to University Malaya Medical Centre but succumbed to severe head and bodily injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital."
Firemen spent about 30 minutes extricating the bodies of Lim and Ee from the wreckage.
Both bodies were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem, while Sin's body was sent to UMMC mortuary.
The bodies were claimed by relatives later yesterday.
In the second incident about 7am at Km24 of Jalan Klang -Kuala Selangor, three friends were killed while another is fighting for his life when their car burst into flames after crashing into a concrete embarkment.
The four men -- Mohd Yusof Kamaruddin, 37, Md Rani Jantan, 54, Mohd Khairi Zakaria, 26, and Mohd Zamri Bukhari, 35, -- were travelling towards Kuala Selangor in a downpour when Yuso, who was driving, lost control of the Proton Iswara.
The car hit a concrete embankment at the side of the road, causing Yusof to be flung out of the car. He was killed on the spot.
The vehicle then burst into flames, trapping the three passengers inside.
Khairi and Zamri, who were seated in the back seat, were burnt to death while Rani was pulled to safety by passing motorists after several minutes.
It was learned that he was in critical condition at the Tanjung Karang Hospital with 50 per cent burns on his body.
The bodies of the other three were taken to the same hospital and were later claimed by relatives.
