MALAYSIA: STATUTORY declarations on one's birth date will not be recognised as a birth certificate, the house was told yesterday.

Deputy Home Minister Senator Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh said only birth certificates from the National Registration Department were legal documents.

Replying to Datuk Siringan Gubat (BN-Ranau), he said statutory declarations could not be converted into birth certificates but might be used to support the application for one.
