MARAN, MALAYSIA: Two youths learnt the hard way that it was not safe to use their motorcycle to "push" another machine on the highway.

They lost their friend when his motorcycle fell while they were pushing it at Km187 of the East Coast Highway near here on Friday.

In the 12.20pm incident, Saiful Hajazrul Abdul Halim of Jalan Pekan, near Kuantan, fell on the road along with his motorcycle after its stand got stuck in the front rim of his friend's machine.

The 15-year-old youth, who studied at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Mat Kilau, Kuantan, sustained head and body injuries and died at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital at 3.30pm.

His two friends, aged 24 and 15, suffered minor injuries as their motorcycle also fell on the road.

They had pushed Saiful Hajazrul's motorcycle after the machine experienced a problem on their way to Kuala Lumpur.

Maran district police chief Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Johari Shahabudin said Saiful Hajazrul's friends were trying to push his motorcycle to a nearby workshop in Sri Jaya near here.

He said the victim had no riding licence. --NST
