A NURSING college student resorted to giving birth without any aid in an empty house in Pokok Sena, Alor Setar, to avoid humiliation, reported Harian Metro.

Her three-kg baby girl who died shortly after birth, suffered a fractured skull, which is believed to have been caused by fallen.

Kota Setar OCPD Assistant Comm Abdul Ghafar Rajab said the 25-year-old student was said to have given birth between 6am and 11.30am on Friday.

However, she only sought medical treatment at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah the next day due to excessive bleeding.

"She cut the umbilical cord herself and wrapped the baby in a piece of cloth.

"It was believed that she rested with the baby at the empty house overnight but was forced to go to the hospital because she was in pain," ACP Abdul Ghafar said.

The doctor who treated the student contacted the police after suspecting something amiss.

The student, who is currently doing her practical training at a hospital in Alor Setar, had successfully hid the pregnancy throughout the months. -The Star/Asia News Network
