She was married but no one knew

When 53-year-old factory worker Low Soo Cheng (Liu Shu Zhen) was found dead in April this year, her family thought that she left this world unmarried.

Her family even chose a white coffin to signify purity as they thought she had remained single all her life.

Then two weeks after her funeral, an insurance company told the family that a man claiming to be her husband had come forward to lay claim on her assets.

Ms Low’s youngest sister said that the family had begun the process of claiming her $54,000 in CPF money, $5,000 in a unit trust and $15,000 cash, among other assets.

And this latest development has complicated matters.

After doing her own ‘investigation’, the youngest sister found out that Ms Low was indeed married in 1981, a day before Valentine’s Day to a Mr Lee Teck Heng.

It has also surfaced that only Ms Low’s third brother and his wife knew of this secret marriage, but they do not know her husband at all.

The family now wants to seek help from the Legal Bureau to contest Mr Lee’s claims.
