LOCAL wallpaper and furnishings firm Goodrich Global recently paid a one-month bonus across the board to try and retain staff.
On top of that, the company's chairman Chan Chong Beng has been sacrificing family time to have dinner with each business division in a bid to understand their concerns.
Goodrich believes it has no choice. 'Our staff are getting better offers. While turnover this year is less than 10 per cent, things are unsettled,' said Mr Chan.
'We see people leaving, and they've been with us for less than six months. It's those productive workers who've been with us for a long time that I'm concerned about.'
More and more employers are noticing this 'come and go' mindset in the job market these days.
Said Ivy Lee Realty's chief executive Ivy Lee: 'People can leave for just $200 to $300 more, especially the younger ones, who are not tied down by kids and family.
'I've had people who say they will come for job interviews but never turn up. There are even those who are supposed to start work but they don't turn up, and tell us later they've found another job.'
