Wed, Dec 12, 2007
The Straits Times

A MAN was charged with four counts of cheating a woman of $4,700 on Wednesday.

Chew Tuck Kong, 45, allegedly deceived Ms Jacqueline Beh Siang Eng, 41, into believing that he had obtained a licence to operate a Singapore Pools outlet and made her hand over a $3,500 cheque as an investment fund on Aug 22 last year.

He is also said to have cheated her three more times by claiming he had shares for sale, that he could help her to register a company, and she had to pay $5,000 to clear her income tax with Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore to receive an income fund of $3 million from Hongkong.

He allegedly duped her of $150, $350 and $700. Bail of $10,000 was allowed.

Chew said he intended to get a lawyer and will appear in court again on Dec 19.
