Coffee shop murder: Man charged

A MAN was charged in a district court on Monday with the murder of a friend at a coffee shop in Yishun on Saturday.

Lee Yin Peow appeared in court for less than a minute.

The 40-year-old, who was clad in a bright orange T-shirt, is said to have caused the death of cleaner Lau Ah Song, 51.

Mr Lau is believed to have been drinking with a group of men when he was allegedly hit by Lee at Bras Basah Food Court - located at Block 101, Yishun Avenue 5.

He died shortly after.

On Monday, Lee was remanded for a week for investigations.

He will be back in court on Monday.

If convicted of murder, he faces the mandatory death penalty.
