IF YOU take just four days of annual leave next year, you stand to get up to 36 rest days - that is, if you plan smart.
This is a leg-up from this year in which you get 37 days off by tagging eight days of leave to public holidays to get a series of long weekends. This year has four long weekends.
With eight long weekends in the year ahead, due to public holidays falling either on a Friday or a Sunday, 2009 is looking good for the savvy holiday planner.
If a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the Monday is normally a rest day.
Even at the start of the year, you can expect a reprise of this year's Chinese New Year holiday hongbao which fell on a Thursday and Friday earlier this month.
Chinese New Year next year falls on a Monday and Tuesday (Jan 26 and 27), so if you took an additional three days leave, you stand to get nine days off.
The biggest perk is reserved for the end of the year when Deepavali and Hari Raya Haji falls within a two-week span in November. If you have an additional eight days of leave to spare, you can stretch it to get a 16-day break.
