Sixteen men in Singapore are confirmed to have suffered serious adverse reactions to the sex drug Power 1 Walnut, says the Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
Another fourty others, all men aged between 20 and 90 years old, are 'suspected cases' because they showed the same symptoms. HSA said they comprise both local residents as well as foreign workers.
Two of the men so far have even gone into a coma.
In the five latest cases, HSA said the victims were found either unconscious at home or found to be suffering from very low blood sugar levels.
HSA reiterated its warning to the public not to consume Power 1 Walnut or buy health products from 'dubious sources' like the street peddlers, makeshift stalls and off the Internet.
Those who have bought such products should throw them away immediately, it says.
Those who may have consumed the drug should stop immediately and seek medical help.
The consequence, if they don't do so - "severe and life threatening symptoms of low blood sugar which includes seizures and coma if not treated in time."
HSA said it's working with the Manpower Ministry and the Singapore Contractors Association to warn foreign workers as well. Raids and stepped-up enforcement in 'high risk areas' have also been done.
As Power 1 Walnut contains controlled substances under the Poisons Act, anyone caught importing, selling or possessing the drug without a licence can be fined up to $10,000 and jailed up to two years.
